Apologies if this was raised before, but is there any reason why Wexford Park is not named after anyone. Seems a large number of counties have their county ground named after someone from their county.
I really could not foresee any objections if the ground as renamed Rackard Park ( duing this as an example, coudl be named after another former county great).
Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this. |

I heard Goodison Park mooted at one stage - referring to Bill of course and not a replica of Everton's home ground _________________ The South East will rise again... |

| No ideas why it was never named after anyone but I would certainly go with Rackard Park. |

| Would certainly agree with calling it Rackard Park but are there not other moves elsewhere to honour that great hurler. Are they going to put up a statue to him in Wexford town near Redmond Square or Selskar? Is Rathnure pitch not already called Nickey Rackard Park? (notice how Nicholas Rackard always spelled his name Nickey, with an "e"). No honour is too great for that fabulous hurler who awakened the spirit in Wexford hurling in the 50s. A bit like conferring the Freedom of a town or city on someone--it is only done when it is unanamously agreed. |

Reading Rackards life story recently I was suprised to see that he had such a long career as a Dual Player with the county .
His first Leinster medal being a football one from 1945. _________________ Respect |

| There was supposed to be a statue of Nicky Rackard put up in Selskar alright but there was a row over it and haven't heard anything about it since. 'No hurling at the the Dairy Door' is a good book by one of the Rackards, very hard to get to buy but should be available in the libraries. |
